Benefits of Messy Play
Messy Play is important. 'It's lack of focus on making or producing something leaves the child free to explore all sorts of possibilities.' Duffy (2007) Early Years Foundation Stage Primary Strategy.
Messy Play is not just play
When you hear the words 'messy play' you think of a messy, fun activity. Well, although that's right, it's not the whole picture.

Evidence shows children learn best through play. When children are having awesome messy fun, they are actually doing heaps of learning at the same time.

In the Early Years Foundation Stages there are 7 areas to learning, and our classes cover the lot! Parents often tell us their babies will sleep for hours after a class and that's because their brain has processed so much information.

Parents can often be a little disheartened if they think their child has just sat and smeared paint around, but in doing just that they are learning so much - their fine and gross motor skills are being practiced (including early mark making), they are learning about colours and textures, they are experiencing first hand about cause and effect, they are engaging with others - which deepens their social and emotional understanding, they are interacting with their parents, they are watching other children who have refined their skills (thereby able to see how to do things themselves) and they are harnessing their creativity!

Each week our sessions are carefully designed. We don't just throw some paint and sensory play out and hope for the best. We have carefully planned each area with your child in mind. Not just babies are catered for, toddlers and even adults will gain from our sessions.

I like to think of our classes as more of a "sensory exploration", as that is exactly what children are doing....exploring!

So come and join us for some exploring, learning and playing, and give your child an incredible start to their creativity!
